Review: The Last Jedi

Poe Dameron: This is Commander Poe Dameron of the Republic fleet, I have an urgent communique for General Hugs.

General Hux: This is General Hux of the First Order. The Republic is no more. Your fleet are Rebel scum and war criminals. Tell your precious princess there will be no terms, there will be no surrender...

I wanted to quit this movie within the first 10 minutes. I can appreciate a little camp here and there, but what I do not appreciate at least as one whose childhood was the original trilogy, is absurd villains. Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, and the venerable Grand Moff Tarkin were villains that you actually respected as characters because of their brevity, rather than basically a living parody. I think Domnhall Gleeson is a talented actor, and if anything I almost feel offended on his behalf (I am sure he is fine, though) --- however you can criticize me as much as you want, but if I am in a Star Wars movie, it would be difficult for me to be disappointed. Sure, the characterization and writing for General Hux may be bad, annoying and token monologging villain, but it is what it is. He is in a Star Wars series, and I am here at my home complaining about it.

Luke Skywalker: I failed you, Ben. I’m sorry.

Kylo Ren: I’m sure you are!

Apparently, even Star Wars stories has no immunity from being taken over by millennials.

Snoke: You are no Vader. You are just a child in a mask.

The most profound quote in the entire film.
