A Question About the MIS Major

A Question About the MIS Major

Is the MIS field saturated?

Yes and No — we can be a number of things. Our biggest obstacle is our versatility.

As an MIS major, the pros of what we are is that we’ve touched on all the main aspects of a firm but the con is that we are not exactly experts on any of them so we are difficult to market. We learn all about how to recognize core competency and that principle is something you must execute for yourself.

Wow, that’s pretty awesome. It would be even cooler if it did this too.

As mentioned, the MIS obstacle is our versatility. At the individual level, the biggest obstacle is you. The MIS gives us carte blanche opportunity to train at any job and become really good at it, and make it work better. We are the people that say “Wow, that’s pretty awesome. It would be even cooler if it did this too.” — we more often than not serve as the bridge of communication between producer and consumer. We identify core competencies and help create the vision for ancillary improvements.

So is the MIS field saturated? Yes it is, in that you’ve got a bunch of people that can virtually be anything try to do everything. Find your core competency, master it, make yourself indispensable. Not everyone gets to choose their path, the MIS gives you that chance.
