Working From Home
My birthday is in March.
March essentially got canceled, my work transitioned everyone to remote, and now we have to wait, wait, and wait some more for things to hopefully return to normal, or something like it. I remain doubtful. We have crossed somewhat of a social line, the kind I do not think we will return from without new conditions and courtesies.
I miss BJJ. COVID-19 is the type of virus that sort of puts a bad damper on full contact sports.
Those are all things in a nutshell that are on my mind during this time period of life.
Let’s take a moment to dwell on some positives though…
I have spent lots of quality time with my kids
I continue to gratefully spend time (quality is debatable as we are both parents) with Courtney
Working remotely so far in the short-term has increased productivity and team cohesiveness
Aside from the anxiety that comes with the social situation weathering this pandemic, I do not think I have experienced this type of peace in a long time
Let’s take a moment to dwell on some negatives…
Society is suffering, especially in areas where COVID-19 presents itself more than others, but also from itself and fear of the unknown
The less fortunate, the poorly prepared, are now essentially the same people — and they need hope more than anyone — this pandemic sort served as a great equalizer in this sense, not an ideal one, but one nonetheless
Government continues to focus on politics from their protected perches while the rest of us marvel at their ability to run on great intentions and legislate trillions for something else instead — they can’t see the importance of picture if they keep expanding the canvas
Conclusion:
Life is good, but the vulnerability that circumstances like this one creates is not something we can live with for the long-term. Medicine will find a cure or a vaccine, it always does right? — until the next one. Governments looking at how manipulatable society became in the name of safety, now has an in-road to create exceptions to every facet of our life for the common good.
Common good, like common sense, is an abstract mythical construct that is neither common or sensical.
